Boulevard treasures
Double take

Echoes of time costumes and vintage clothing
B. Original
The Knapsack Children consignment
Ditto Backatcha Boutique
VB repeats

The number of resale stores has grown by 7% the past 2 years. Studies show 15-18% of Us consumers will shop at a Thrift store annually and 12-15 % will patronize consignment reslae shops.

How do you feel about consignment stores ? Im the youngest of 4 so 2nd hand and hand me down was pretty much what I got most of my like anyway. As an adult with a good income I was able to start buying retail and for a while it was fun. Over time I would walk the mall or major department store and realize we all look like the maniquines dressed and there was nothing unique or exciting. I also realized the hefty price tag and thats when I started heading back to my old ways. Consignments and Thrift is not just for clothes, some people find it hard to dig through piles of stuff to find a treasure. I have found some amazing things at the stores like

Cashmere Sweaters
Real Silver Candle sticks
Beautiful basket
Art and stunning frames
Sewing material and art supplies
Pink Depression glass
Leather purses
Tons of Princess House
A lid for my crockpot that broke
I normally will buy clothes from stores like
Talbots
Ann Kline
Nordstrom’s
Sacks
Jones
Diana Buckman
Lilly Pultzer
Any more ! !!!!
It does take some time to look at things and you have to be patient but you can find some amazing home decor for your home and high end clothing for you !

Thrift Bargain !

by Alison Creamer- Bzibee

I’m a fan of a thrift, Junk, Antique, Charity store. What ever you call them I LOVE THEM. I’m the youngest of 4 so getting used clothing was normal for me as a kid. I have been a bargain shopper since I can remember. I love to walk the isles and look at everything. To be thrifty you have to keep your mind open and your eyes VERY OPEN. If you not into used clothes you can still enjoy these stores. Currently I’m on a mission to replace one wine glass that my husband broke by accident. I have wine glasses but this was a Princess House set that I have had for about 15 years. I don’t want to pay full price and I don’t want to buy off ebay. I have been searching every junk store to see if I can locate one. While on my mission I have found SO MUCH MORE !
Last week I got 4 5″tumblers 2 other tumblers, 4 fantasia coffee mugs ( all that cost me 5 bucks!) I also found a hurricane lamp, and a baby cakes container all Princess house.

Yesterday on my mission I found 8 red luncheon plates, 2 campaign glasses and the large chip and dip server and a salt shaker ALL PRINCESS HOUSE. That ran me 18 a little higher then the tumblers but still well worth it. I think the amount retail would have been closer to $200.00+

I also found a ton of fabric to satisfy my sewing addiction a beautiful wine rack, shelves and a painting for my bedroom. WAIT there is more ! My best deal could be these ALVIN STERLING candle sticks prices at $2.25. I was looking on line for similar items and antiques have them from 40-100′s in price !

Over the years I have replaced broken lids, coffee pots, and mismatch items as needed and it was a fraction of the cost ! So the next time a junk store grosses you out think again you could be saving a ton of money ! I’m already to go again today ! I’m still on a mission for that wine glass.

Correctional facility and gardening

by Alison Creamer- Bzibee

Inmates at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center tend to the soil in the garden.  Sheriff Kenneth Stolle came up with the idea to allow inmates to have a garden and save money. If all goes well it allow 1300 inmates to enjoy fresh vegetables. I think its an amazing idea that allows the inmates to also learn and feel good about doing something productive. Stolle wants to expand the field to 2 acres if all goes well. A private donor has given the jail a green house to allow a winter gardening. Some inmates will leave before the harvest, but even with that it’s a great lesson to pass on something good for others. I think it would be wonderful to allow a farmers market to raise money to help sustain the inmates.
