Inmates at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center tend to the soil in the garden. Sheriff Kenneth Stolle came up with the idea to allow inmates to have a garden and save money. If all goes well it allow 1300 inmates to enjoy fresh vegetables. I think its an amazing idea that allows the inmates to also learn and feel good about doing something productive. Stolle wants to expand the field to 2 acres if all goes well. A private donor has given the jail a green house to allow a winter gardening. Some inmates will leave before the harvest, but even with that it’s a great lesson to pass on something good for others. I think it would be wonderful to allow a farmers market to raise money to help sustain the inmates.
